Suzy Barcomb

Seattle U earned a 15 seed and played at second-seeded Oregon in the first round. Alexis Montgomery wrapped up a remarkable career, claiming First Team All-WAC and WAC All-Defensive Team recognition. She became the first player in WAC history to win six WAC Player of the Week awards and is also the only WAC player with more than one triple-double. SU led the WAC in scoring, rebounds, and assists, becoming the first team in 16 seasons to achieve the feat. Kallin Spiller was chosen WAC Freshman of the Year, as Barcomb's program became one of four Division I schools to claim consecutive conference rookies of the year (Oregon, Kennesaw State, Liberty).

Barcomb is one of two active NCAA head coaches to take different schools to the Division I, Division 2, and Division 3 NCAA Tournaments.

In her first season at SU, Barcomb oversaw an exciting turnaround as the Redhawks drastically outperformed expectations to finish second in the WAC regular season standings and advance to the WAC Championship game. Seattle U also made its third Division I postseason appearance, qualifying for the WNIT. After being chosen to place seventh in both WAC preseason polls, Barcomb instead guided SU to a 10-4 conference record, good for second place. The Redhawks were one of 10 Division I teams to increase their conference win total by at least seven games from 2015-16.

SU won five road games in the WAC, including a 67-54 win at UTRGV that featured the biggest comeback (16 points) by an SU team since Feb. 28, 2013. Alexis Montgomery earned All-WAC First Team honors, while Kamira Sanders became the first Redhawk to win a major WAC award, claiming Freshman of the Year. Senior Kaylee Best was an All-WAC Second Team pick, finishing her career as the Seattle U all-time leader in made three-pointers (195). She became the 16th player in program history to score 1,000 points, achieving the feat at Grand Canyon on Feb. 16. That same night, Best sank seven treys, setting an SU single-game record. Barcomb's versatile offense led the WAC in assists per game (14.5) in conference play. The team's defense also shined, holding WAC opponents to 28.9 percent shooting from three-point range, the stingiest mark in the league.

Barcomb spent six seasons at the helm of the Cal State East Bay women’s basketball program where she led the Pioneers to the university’s first-ever conference championship and NCAA Tournament appearance in any sport. She surpassed career win No. 300 in February 2015 and led her team to the institution’s first-ever postseason win, advancing to the conference championships that season.

Prior to Cal State East Bay, Barcomb was at the helm of the University of Puget Sound for 12 seasons where she became the all-time winningest coach in program history. Barcomb started her coaching career as an assistant at Puget Sound (1995-98) and has a wealth of experience, working in every facet of athletics administration – event management, sports information, academic advising, and recruitment – in addition to coaching. She is a member of the USA Today/ESPN Board of Coaches National Committee and the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA).

Beginning her collegiate playing career as a middle hitter on the volleyball team and a forward on the basketball team at Central Missouri State, Barcomb transferred to Washington where she walked on to the Huskies’ women’s basketball team, playing one season. Barcomb graduated from the University of Washington in 1986.
