Who is Xcelerate Nike Lacrosse Camps?
In 2003, Xcelerate Lacrosse was founded by Steve Anderson and Jay Jalbert, two former University of Virginia lacrosse players. Both reached a level of play that other young lacrosse players dream of. Jay won a National Championship, was a 3x All-American, and went on to play for Team USA, as well as, win the MVP award in Major League Lacrosse. Steve was a member of two Final Four teams, was elected Captain his senior year, was a North-South Collegiate All-Star, and went on to teach the sport he loved to countless youth, teens, and collegiate players while walking the sidelines as a lacrosse coach.
It was shortly after their post-collegiate careers, that both Steve and Jay decided to work together and launch what they felt was needed throughout the country. A value driven instructional camp designed to give kids and teens in non-traditional lacrosse areas an opportunity to learn from some of the best professional players and experienced coaches in the game. That meant flying these same coaches and pro players to multiple locations and teaming them up with local coaches (usually east coast transplants), to give campers a true sense of what lacrosse is all about. In doing so, the campers would not only be improving their overall lacrosse skill set, but would also have a chance to learn and understand what it takes to play at the highest levels both physically and mentally. Things like how to set goals, how to be a leader and a good teammate, and how to gain confidence and believe in yourself. Ultimately, both Steve and Jay wanted the kids to leave camp at the end of the week knowing that they could achieve more than they ever thought possible. The message? “We did it and so can you!”
15 years later, this message still resonates throughout our company. The sport of lacrosse has grown exponentially, but our mission as coaches, as leaders, as parents, remains the same. To provide a platform for kids and teens to see and experience their potential and to instill in them a self-confidence that enables them to take on any kind of challenge they may face on the playing field, in the classroom, or in life. Knowing that someone believes in you can do wonders for you and our goal each summer is to share this message through our actions as coaches.
We look forward to another fun-filled summer of meeting new campers, seeing returning campers, and inspiring greatness in everyone.
Hope to see you on the field!
